Martin, a visiting professor of English at Duquesne University, is a fiction and non-fiction writer whose work has been published in national and international journals, including “Pearl Magazine,” “Tears in the Fence,” and elsewhere. She is an Associate Professor of creative writing at the University of North Texas.ĭubrow will be joined at the podium by Veterans Write co-directors Gretchen Uhrinek and Jeff Martin. The daughter of American diplomats, Dubrow was born in Italy and grew up in Yugoslavia, Zaire, Poland, Belgium, Austria, and the United States. Dakin Fellowship and a Howard Nemerov award from the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, and a Sosland Foundation Fellowship from the Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies.

She has received the Alice Fay Di Castagnola Award, the Towson University Prize for Literature, an Individual Artist’s Award from the Maryland State Arts Council, a Walter E. Her poetry, creative nonfiction, and book reviews have appeared in “Southern Review,” “Pleiades,” “The New York Times Magazine,” “Southwest Review,” “The New England Review,” as well as on “Poetry Daily,” “Verse Daily,” and “American Life in Poetry.” In addition to “Dots & Dashes” (Southern Illinois University Press, 2017), Dubrow’s previous books are “The Arranged Marriage” (University of New Mexico Press, 2015), “Red Army Red” (Northwestern University Press, 2012) , “Stateside” (Northwestern University Press, 2010), “From the Fever-World” (WWPH, 2010), and “The Hardship Post” (three candles press, 2009, Sundress Publications, 2013). “Dots & Dashes,” like much of Dubrow’s work, recounts her experiences as the spouse of a soldier and casts light on the often untold experience of military families. Veterans attending the reading receive a free copy of Dubrow’s latest book, “Dots & Dashes,” winner of the Crab Orchard Series in Poetry competition.
